elcome to the Connecticut Motorcycle Rider Education Program sponsored by Northwestern Connecticut Community College. Rider Education courses are authorized by the State Department of Transportation and recognized by the Department of Motor Vehicles as Connecticut’s only Certified Rider Training Program. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates are entitled to:
waiver of the Department of Motor Vehicle on-cycle licensing skill test and l0% discount on motorcycle insurance.

The Basic Rider Course (BRC) is designed for those with little or no riding experience. You must have a valid driver’s license or motorcycle permit and be physically able to operate a motorcycle. Motorcycles will be provided. The course runs approximately 20 hours. Fee: $150, $100 for individuals under 18 years of age, $300 for out-of-state residents.

The Experienced Rider Course (ERC) is for those with at least six months riding experience and over 500 miles, a motorcycle operator’s license, and a street legal motorcycle. This is your chance to practice street-riding “survival skills”. You will use your own motorcycle to explore traction management, swerving, cornering, and braking techniques. Fee: $50, $75 for out of state residents.

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

1. A State of Connecticut registration form & waiver form. Please sign and date both the registration and the waiver form. If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must also sign the waiver form (where indicated). Mail with payment (Visa or Master Card # & expiration date, check or money order made out to NCCC) to: Continuing Education, NCCC, Park Place East, Winsted, CT 06098.
2. Payment. If you are registering for the BRC: A check/money order (or Visa/ Master Card #) for $150 or $100 if under 18 years old (non-refundable). The out-of-state resident fee is $300, unless attending a Connecticut college/university or serving in the Military (submit a copy of a valid school or base ID.)
3. If you are registering for the ERC: A check/money order (or Visa/Master Card #) for $50 (non-refundable). The out of state resident fee is $75, unless attending a Connecticut college/university or serving in the Military (submit a copy of a valid school or base ID.)
Checks should be made out to “ NCCC”.
You may register by phone (860-738-6446) or fax (860-738-6453) with Visa or Master Card.
If registering by phone, the waiver form must be mailed to NCCC.

Registrations are on a first-come, first-served basis. A course may be rescheduled or cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstance. If you wish to change classes, we must receive your request IN WRITING at least TWO WEEKS before the start of the class you have already registered for.
Unless a course is canceled REFUNDS ARE NOT ISSUED.

Required Equipment:
  HELMET (we will provide one, if you don’t have your own)
EYE PROTECTION
(a face shield, or approved eye glasses)
LEATHER GLOVES
(must have fingers)
LEATHER OVER-THE-ANKLE FOOT WEAR
(boots or athletic shoes)
LONG PANTS & LONG SLEEVED SHIRT OR JACKET

 

  ou must attend ALL sessions, IN SEQUENCE (no exceptions). Any absence will require you to register for another course, pay again, and start from the beginning. If you know you will miss a session because of a schedule conflict such as a vacation or wedding, do not enroll in that class. Choose another.




Learning to safely ride a motorcycle demands alertness and some physical exertion. We rarely cancel due to weather. Bring rain gear (no ponchos), warm clothes (for those cold days), plenty of water to drink, and lunch and/or snacks.
