Rider
Education
Program
sponsored
by
Northwestern
Connecticut
Community
College.
Rider
Education
courses
are
authorized
by
the
State
Department
of
Transportation
and
recognized
by
the
Department
of
Motor
Vehicles
as
Connecticut’s
only
Certified
Rider
Training
Program.
Upon
successful
completion
of
the
course,
graduates
are
entitled
to:
waiver
of
the
Department
of
Motor
Vehicle
on-cycle
licensing
skill
test
and
l0%
discount
on
motorcycle
insurance.

The
Basic
Rider
Course
(BRC)
is
designed
for
those
with
little
or
no
riding
experience.
You
must
have
a
valid
driver’s
license
or
motorcycle
permit
and
be
physically
able
to
operate
a
motorcycle.
Motorcycles
will
be
provided.
The
course
runs
approximately
20
hours.
Fee:
$150,
$100
for
individuals
under
18
years
of
age,
$300
for
out-of-state
residents.
The
Experienced
Rider
Course
(ERC)
is
for
those
with
at
least
six
months
riding
experience
and
over
500
miles,
a
motorcycle
operator’s
license,
and
a
street
legal
motorcycle.
This
is
your
chance
to
practice
street-riding
“survival
skills”.
You
will
use
your
own
motorcycle
to
explore
traction
management,
swerving,
cornering,
and
braking
techniques.
Fee:
$50,
$75
for
out
of
state
residents.

Registrations
are
on
a
first-come,
first-served
basis.
A
course
may
be
rescheduled
or
cancelled
due
to
insufficient
enrollment
or
other
unforeseen
circumstance.
If
you
wish
to
change
classes,
we
must
receive
your
request
IN
WRITING
at
least
TWO
WEEKS
before
the
start
of
the
class
you
have
already
registered
for.
Unless
a
course
is
canceled
REFUNDS
ARE
NOT
ISSUED.

Any
absence
will
require
you
to
register
for
another
course,
pay
again,
and
start
from
the
beginning.
If
you
know
you
will
miss
a
session
because
of
a
schedule
conflict
such
as
a
vacation
or
wedding,
do
not
enroll
in
that
class.
Choose
another. |
Learning
to
safely
ride
a
motorcycle
demands
alertness
and
some
physical
exertion.
We
rarely
cancel
due
to
weather.
Bring
rain
gear
(no
ponchos),
warm
clothes
(for
those
cold
days),
plenty
of
water
to
drink,
and
lunch
and/or
snacks.
